There’s something truly joyful about a full circle skirt. It’s one of those garments that manages to be both dramatic and wearable, swishy, feminine and full of personality. And Meena’s latest make ticks all those boxes in big, bold polka dots.
If you’ve never made one before, a full circle skirt is exactly what it sounds like: a skirt cut from a full circle of fabric. That gives it maximum twirl factor and a lovely drape that skims and flows as you move. The downside? It takes a lot of fabric. In Meena’s case, a whopping five metres! And unless you’ve got a cutting table the size of a tennis court, you’ll need to get creative with your layout. We ended up cutting it out on the floor, with fabric everywhere and a pattern piece the size of a flying saucer.
Meena chose our crisp white polka dot fabric, which was a perfect match for the playful silhouette. It was her first go at a full circle skirt and her first invisible zip too, both of which she tackled like a pro. Here’s what she had to say about the process:

My First Full Circle Skirt Project ✨
by Meena
“I recently made my first full circle skirt, and it was such a rewarding experience! This was my first time sewing an invisible zipper, and I’m happy to say it turned out much better than I expected. I was a bit nervous at first, but with some patience (and a few seam rips), it came together.

The most challenging part, though, was hemming the skirt. Since it’s a circle skirt, the hem is curved, which made it a bit tricky to get it even and neat. I ended up watching a few tutorials to guide me through the process, and thankfully, they really helped. In the end, I’m proud of how it turned out, it definitely taught me a lot!
Can’t wait to wear it and start on my next project.
Once again thank you for all your help and support.”
Brilliant work, Meena, your BeeHive badge of honour is well deserved 🐝👏
We love how Meena embraced the challenges, asked questions, tried new things and ended up with something she’s proud of. That’s exactly what Sewing TheraBee is all about.
And we can’t wait to see that skirt in action. With all that swoosh and swing, it’s made for twirling.
